The story of the teddy bear is as heartwarming as the toy itself. In 1902, President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt embarked on a bear-hunting expedition in Mississippi. During the hunt, a small brown bear was captured and tied to a tree for the President to shoot. Displaying compassion, Roosevelt refused to harm the defenceless animal, a gesture that captured the nation's attention. Clifford Berryman, a cartoonist for the Washington Post, illustrated the scene, portraying the President turning away from the helpless cub.
Inspired by this act of kindness, Morris Michtom, a Brooklyn shopkeeper, crafted a toy bear and called it "Teddy's bear." The plush toy quickly gained popularity, capturing the hearts of children and adults alike. And so, the teddy bear was born - a symbol of comfort, love, and childhood innocence.
Over the years, teddy bears have become more than just toys, now commonly cherished companions that often stay with us throughout our lives. Their different characteristics and unique personalities make them highly collectable, each bear telling its own story.
